"Plays the paddle down style butterfly...takes advantage of his size and plays good position in net staying big, square and tight at all times...goes down on most shots spreading out well and taking away most of the net...has very good concentration and stays alert..has good quickness and acute reflexes...covers the angles well...needs to improve on recovering from scrambles." (NHL Central Scouting, 1997) "Left Cornell after last season to take over heavy workload in major junior hockey." (Wayne Fish, The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)
"Pelletier began the year as co-No. 1 alongside Brian Boucher with Philadelphia of the American League, but moved ahead on the organizational depth chart when Boucher went down with two knee surgeries. Pelletier played well enough that Clarke brought him up for his first NHL start March 4 after John Vanbiesbrouck lost five straight games and Ron Hextall slumped. "You don't know if they're both going to be No. 1s, but they're both capable," Flyers' president-GM Bob] Clarke said. "He's confident, not cocky, very bright. (Goalie coach Reggie) Lemelin says when you talk to him, he knows what's going on right away."" (Wayne Fish, The Hockey News Future Watch 1999)
"Mature. Pelletier plays with great confidence and poise. A big goalie who covers a lot of net, Pelletier plays a butterfly style similar to Patrick Roy, but he needs to work on controlling his rebounds. Has wrestled the "goalie of the future" label away from Brian Boucher. With John Vanbiesbrouck aging quickly, a spot in the NHL for Pelletier might not be too far away." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 115)
"Pelletier gained some acclaim by being named MVP in the 1999 AHL All-Star Game. The Patrick Roy-style butterfly goalie is thought to have huge potential and was far more than a throw-in in the Rod Brind'Amour-Keith Primeau deal. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder was named IHL player of the week in late February." (Cecil Harris, The Hockey News Future Watch 2000)
"The Hurricanes' goaltender of the future. Posted an outstanding 14-4 record with a 2.44 goales-against average with Cincinnati of the IHL after his acquisition from the Flyers. Highly regarded in Philly, Pelletier was nonetheless made expendable when Keith Primeau's name was put on the table during trade talks. The 1999-2000 campaign wasn't even over when GM Jim Rutherford proclaimed Pelletier as being ready to spell Irbe as of this season. Expect slow but steady development from the talented netminder." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 120)
"Pelletier has been bothered by injuries and hasn't been able to make a strong impression since coming over from Philadelphia more than a year ago. This season it took him a while to shake the setback from a preseason ankle injury. Pelletier is still the potential goalie of the future, but it has taken him a little longer to develop than Carolina hoped. After the disappointment of not making the NHL club last fall, he has worked his way through a decent season with Cincinnati." (Bob Sutton, The Hockey News Future Watch 2001)
"You can never write off young goalies. Pelletier didn't progress much last season, but the promise is still there and he has the size and positioning to be an NHL goaltender." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 122)
"Pelletier has disappointed since coming from the Philadelphia Flyers in the Rod Brind'Amour-Keith Primeau trade. He split time in the AHL with Tyler Moss last season. The acquisition of Kevin Weekes certainly gives some indication that the organization no longer feels comfortable with Pelletier as their goaltender of the future." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 120)
