Ralula College, Matara was established in May 1, 1923, by the Buddhist Society led by Sir. R.A.D. Gunawardana Maha Kulathunga. It is one of the oldest Buddhist schools. Rahula College is a national school. It provides primary and secondary education.

History

In 1991, F. Gorden Pearce (principal of Mahinda College, Galle), D.T.W. Rajapaksha Ralahami, Sir. R.A.D. Gunawardana Maha Kulathunga established the "Buddhists Society". On 1923 May 1st, the Buddhists Society opened a school named Parakramabhahu Vidyalaya, in a rented building on Main Street, Matara. Parakramabhahu Vidyalaya's motto was "May I be a true buddhist". Hewwabowalage Yasapala was the first student of Parakramabhahu Vidyalaya. Parakramabhahu Vidyalaya was shifted to the "Saram Mudali Walawuwa" which was donated by C. A. Ordisis de Sivla, with the new name of "Rahula College".

Rahula College Today

Today Rahula College is home to about 6000 students and is guided by about 200 dedicated staff, led by principal Kithsiri Liyanagama. Rahula College has been in the forefront of the the Sri Lankan national schools and is considered to be one of the best outstation schools in the country. The school frequently producs ae large number of high-ranking students to Sri Lankan universities.

Rahula College has became a benchmark.Its students are performing in extra curicular activities as well as studies."Rahula Prefects" "Rahula Scouts" "Rahula Cadets" and "Rahula Athletes" have marked their identity well.In the meantime easthetic section has sustain the strings of mother Rahula from its glorius victories.Several clubs and associations in Rahula College collaborate to uplift the personalties and qualities of Rahulians and train them to the future leadership of the world.

Rahula Old Boys rules the country and guide the country.They bare top ranks in various fields diplomacy,medcine,politics,public services,education and etc.Rahula College also has one of the most powerful old boys association in Sri Lanla which wide spread all over the country and over seas.

Rahula College official website was founded in 2003 as a result of the Rahula Web Project along with the Rahula Web Team 2003.The project was conducted by Ven. Bogoda Wimalagnana Thero and Mr. Jayawardane.

The Rahula College official website is currently administered by Iroshan Kulatunga and his TEAM.The team consists of 5 students who has shown outstanding performance both national and provincial levels.
