Tyrone Smith

Tyrone Smith (born circa 1975) is a sports news reporter and presenter on STV North's regional news programme, "North Tonight".

Smith was born and bred in the Bridge of Don suburb of Aberdeen to a long-serving teacher of Northfield Academy and a supply teacher who worked at various schools in his home city.

Smith attended Scotstown Primary School, Bridge of Don Academy and Aberdeen University, where he studied politics and international relations. Latterly, he obtained a postgraduate diploma in journalism at Strathclyde University. After graduating, Smith worked at Northsound Radio on a work experience placement and a subsequent holiday relief job. He also freelanced for the now-defunct radio station 96.3 Q FM in Renfrewshire and Scot FM in Edinburgh. Smith joined Grampian Television (now "STV North") in 1998 as a production journalist. He later volunteered to become chief sports reporter/presenter for "North Tonight", a role which he continues to this day.

Smith has also presented occasional programmes including "Trump Links", a documentary about plans by American billionaire Donald Trump to build a golf course in Aberdeenshire.
