History

The Carolina Opry has run since 1986. The show blends two hours of music, comedy and dance – from Broadway to country, from classic pop to rock’n roll, and gospel to bluegrass. Also featuring “All That” – the urban cloggers featured on the hit NBC show “America’s Got Talent.” Directed and produced by Calvin Gilmore (performer on the Grand Ole Opry and winner of the Best Producer award at IGCITA in Las Vegas) The Carolina Opry is the only show to receive every top tourism award, including the Governor’s Cup, and Most Outstanding Attraction, the only show that has been voted number 1 show every year, and the only show to have an official day (Carolina Opry Day) proclaimed for the State of South Carolina by the Governor.

The Carolina Opry, brainchild of entrepreneur and entertainer Calvin Gilmore, opened in Surfside Beach, South Carolina in 1986. The original venue was a 1,000 seat theater located one block from Main Street in Surfside Beach. As shows began to sell out nightly, a second show was opened in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as The Dixie Jubilee. Both shows began to sell out nightly and in 1993, the shows were consolidated under The Carolina Opry name in a new 2,200 seat theater located at the intersection of Highway 17 Business and Highway 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach.

Today the Carolina Opry theater continues to offer the show three days per week. Gilmore's newest show, [http://www.thecarolinaopry.com/www/GoodVibrations/GoodVibrations.html Good Vibrations] , features the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, along with comedy from the era.
