Bukti Negara

Bukti Negara

Bukti Negara Pentjak Silat (also Bukti Negara) is a system of Indonesian martial arts created by pendekar Paul de Thouars. Bukti translates to "evidence" or "witness" and Negara translates to "continent" or "country". This art was formulated out of the system of Pukulan Pentjak Silat Serak.

History

The Serak system is unique because it was developed from Pak Sera's unique physicalness. He was a man that was limited to one arm and one leg. He developed a viable combative system which made unique use of leverage to account for his specific disabilities. Both Serak and Bukti Negara use this system of leverage to perform it's various techniques and drills. The systems also employ "Pukulan" or "poekoelan" which are methods of nerve striking and pressure point manipulation. "Poekoelan" is an Indonesian word whose root is pukul which means "to hit." It refers to those styles which place a heavy emphasis on hitting. Serak /Bukti Negara's maneuvers were engineered to place the enemy into positions of vulnerability where the tools of the system have their greatest effect. Information regarding striking points, striking sequences, and direction are contained within the curriculum. This information was designed to cause severe damage, unconsciousness or death to the opponent.

Training methods

Djurus and Sambuts

This martial art is composed of eight "Djurus" (forms) and eight "Sambuts" (2 man sets) which serve as the primary foundation of the art.

*Djurus-singular forms, equivalent of a "kata".
*Sambuts-a combination of techniques performed in a set sequence. They are trained with a partner to give the practitioner a sense of position and sensitivity.

Also include in the curriculum of the art:
*Langkahs-are geometric patterns on the floor that contain footwork information necessary for combat effectiveness.
*Kembangan-is referred to as the "flower dance". It's sort of a war dance practiced with gamelan, krontjong or kendangan (drum music).It consists of aesthetically pleasing and flexible moves representing fighting actions against imaginary enemies.

Drills

The art also contains numerous drills which are performed between two partners. These drills help to develop timing, speed and reflexes by repetitive striking and blocking. Some of the more common drills within this art are listed below.

*Sambutan-is also known as the counter for counter drill. It involves two opponents in the practice of attacking and counter-attacking in a continually flowing motion.
*Kaki Nempel-("sticky feet drill") is a pre-set drill performed by two practitioners who trade strikes and blocks to help develop hand and foot coordination, appreciation of distance and foot and leg trapping.
*Kilet-or "sticky hands" is a basic blocking drill.
*Depok & Sempok-refers to foot positions relative to your upper body. It is the practice of transferring energy from one point to another to take advantage of specific leverages.

Some of the more prominent practitioners of the art include:
* Danny Huybrechts
* Larry Watanabe
* Tim Anderson
* Vahid Aminian
* Erol Paulus
* Dave Jugan
