Ian Arkwright (born September 18, 1959 in Shafton, Barnsley) is an English former professional footballer. He played primarily as a winger, most notably for Wrexham during the early 1980s.

Career

Arkwright began his career as an apprentice at Wolverhampton Wanderers, turning professional in September 1977. He failed to establish himself at Wolves however, and managed just 4 games in total. His debut was as a substitute in a 1-0 win over QPR on 30 September 1978, but after starting the next 3 games, never featured for the club again.

He was transferred to Wrexham for a fee of £100,000 in March 1980. In 4 years at the Racecourse Ground, he made 104 league appearances, scoring 10 goals. Towards the end of his time and Wrexham and effectively his league career, he moved to Torquay United on loan in March 1984, but made only two appearances for the Gulls, away to Chesterfield and at home to Mansfield Town on the 18th and 24th of March respectively, before returning to Wrexham.

He later plied his trade in foreign leagues, joining Finn Harps in Ireland and later FC HIK in Finland.
