Kamaal Khan

Kamaal Khan is a British born Hindi pop singer and actor of Indian origin.

Biography

The Early Years

Kamaal Khan was born on 12th March 1972 in Highgate, North London and has two brothers and two sisters. He spent most of his early years living in Finchley, North London. He developed an interest in music from a very early age and had amassed a collection of over 200 Hindi film soundtracks by the age of 12.

Career

Music

Kamaal was initially quite hesitant to enter the music industry but after much persuasion by his elder brother Jamal, Kamaal finally agreed to take up a career in music. In 1995 he wrote and produced his first song "O Oh Jaane Jaana" at Yojo Working Studios in Kensal Road, London. The song released in 1996 becoming an instant hit and achieved Platinum status within 2 weeks of its release. The song also featured in the 1998 Bollywood blockbuster "Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya" starring Salman Khan & Kajol. The soundtrack went on to become a multi-million selling album and the huge success of the movie has widely been attributed by film pundits to the popularity of "O Oh Jaane Jana". As a result of his successful debut single, Kamaal was immediately signed by record label HMV (India) in December 1997 on a 3 album deal for a huge undisclosed sum.

Kamaal Khan went on to achieve further success with his solo albums "Suno To Deewana Dil" (2000) and "Kal Raat" (2003). Kamaal Khan and MTV award winning director Shivraj Santhakumar collaborated to shoot a music video for Kal Raat in Rome.Rumour has it that the music video caught the eye Bollywood director Rahul Rawail and landed Kamaal his debut acting role.

Kamaal is currently working on his 4th solo album titled "Khanfusion" which is due for a summer 2008 release.

Acting

In May 2005 he made his acting debut as the main antagonist in director Rahul Rawail's "Jo Bole So Nihaal" starring alongside Sunny Deol. Kamaal Khan is the first British born winner of the coveted Filmfare Award in its 53 year history and also the first British born Indian to appear in a lead role in a Bollywood feature film.
