Basar is a census town in Adilabad district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Basar is popular in India because of Saraswathi temple, which is only such temple in entire India.

Geography

Basar is also located in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the river Godavari and is famous for Saraswati Temple in India. The temple of Goddess Saraswathi, the one and only temple of this deity in South India, located at Basar is a famous pilgrim place.

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Basar had a population of 3834. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Basar has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Rail Transport

BASAR (Railway Station Code: BSX) is a Railway Station in Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway(SCR). In the Meter Gauge era, Hyderabad Division operated a daily Meter Gauge Express between Secunderabad and Basar. Subsequent to the gauge conversion of Kachiguda-Manmad section of HYB Division, SC-Basar Express was extended up to Nanded in Maharashtra. It is now 7039/7040 Kachiguda-Nanded Intercity Express.

This is a unique temple of Sarawathy, The Hindu Goddess of Knowledge and Learning. Children are brought here to do the learning ceremony called as Akshara abyasam meaning learning.

It is situated about 200 km from Hyderabad and 50 km from Nizamabad. Basar is 600km from Mumbai, by a train on the new Secunderabad - Mumbai Devagiri Express.
