Anjangaon is a city and a municipal council in Amravati district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Basically there are twin cities, Anjangaon and Surji, on either side of river Shahanur, and are called Anjangaon-Surji in combination.

Geography

Anjangaon is located at coord|18.08|N|75.6|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/16/Anjangaon.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Anjangaon] ] It has an average elevation of 475 metres (1558 feet).The Anjangaon city is well known for production of bettle leaves and pippali. These crops are cultivated on large area by farmers from Bari Cast. The city is well known for the holy stay of great Saint Ruplal Maharaj who worked to teach people the worth of unity, sanitation and tree plantation through out his spiritual life.

Education

There are many educational institutes in the town among which Sitabai Sangai High School and Junior College and Radhabai Sarda College are more important.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Anjangaon had a population of 51,163. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Anjangaon has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Transport

Anjangaon is connected to Amravati (76 km) and Akola (75 km) by roadways. The stste transport (MSRTC) buses ply from Anjangaon to Amravati, Paratwada, Akola, Akot, Ramtek, Yavatmal, Pandharkavada, Aurangabad etc. It is also connected to Murtijapur which is a station on Bhusaval-Nagpur section of Central Railway by a Narrow Gauge railway popularly called as Shakuntala Express.
