Anakaputhur is a town in Kancheepuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Though situated in Kancheepuram district, the town is actually a suburb of Chennai. Anakaputhur was once famous for its traditional weaving business, but due to modern textile industry its charm seems to be lost out. The weaving business seems to be once again back in Anakaputhur with the help of the print media(articles relating to Anakaputhur weaving business is now and then being published daily on news papers). Weavers in Anakaputhur are now known to be famous for their weaving skills with banana fibre. Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is likely to see this as a new venture. The village was featured in "The Tyranny of Control" video of milton friedman's "free to choose.Mrs Bharathi Kumar is the current chairperson of the town.She is the first lady chairperson.

Save Pozhichallur

With the residents of Pozhichalur up in arms, the expansion plans of the Chennai international airport is getting mired in controversy. Expanding the airport means that close to 1,500 acres (6 km²) of the surrounding areas like Anakaputhur and Pozhichalur (a town which is situated north west of Pallavaram) will be taken over by the government. But the residents want none of it. They want the government to look for a site that would not affect human habitation.
