Eugene Kelly (Irish republican)

Eugene Kelly ((Irish Óglach Eugene Ó Ceallaigh) (5 July 1962 – 8 May 1987) was a volunteer within the East Tyrone Brigade in the Provisional Irish Republican Army from Cappagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland who was killed during an ambush by British Army soldiers from the SAS unit. Background

Kelly was from a family of two brothers and four sisters and grew in in Cappagh, County Tyrone.

East Tyrone Brigade

Kelly became a highly active member of the PIRA after first joining the paramilitary group in 1982. Kelly became a member of the East Tyrone Brigade of the IRA and was ultilised for his detailed geographical knowledge of rural areas in County Tyrone and County Armagh.

Burial

He was buried in a private ceremony at Altmore Cemetery, Cappagh.
