Karl Korte (b. Ossining,
New York ,August 25 ,1928 ) is an American composer ofcontemporary classical music .He grew up in
Englewood, New Jersey . He attended theJuilliard School , where he studied withPeter Mennin ,William Bergsma , andVincent Persichetti . He later studied composition withOtto Luening ,Goffredo Petrassi , andAaron Copland .Korte taught at the
University of Texas at Austin from 1971 to 1997 and currently holds the rank of emeritus professor. From 1997 to 2000 he was a visiting professor atWilliams College inWilliamstown, Massachusetts . He lives inCambridge, New York .He has received many national and international awards for his work including two
Guggenheim Fellowship s (1959 and 1970), Fulbright Awards to Italy and to New Zealand, and a Gold Medal from the Belgian Government in theQueen Elisabeth Music Competition .elected works
