PF-98

PF-98

The PF-98 is a light anti-tank rocket primarily for the PLA's infantry. The PF-98—weighing in at 6 pounds—is the replacement for the obsolete Type 65 and Type 78, weighing in considerably heavier at 12 and 75 pounds, respectively. This weapon fires a 120mm High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) warhead, capable of penetrating 400mm of armor, with negligible recoil.

Composition

The PF-98 consists of a free-flight rocket cartridge packed in a reusable, watertight, one piece launcher tube. It may be fired shoulder-launched or mounted on a tripod. The launcher consists of the tube (with a life of over 200 fires), optical sight with night vision channel (range of 500m), and adjustable/lockable tripod. The rear of the launcher tube has a lock to prevent the rocket from slipping out when aimed at a high angle. This weapon also has a computerized fire control system. The firing system includes a laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator, and LED display.
