He started his career in Libya with
Al Ahly Tripoli . There, in his first year, he played 26 matches and scored 11 goals, coming off 3rd in the 1997/1998 Libyan Player of the Year award (he then went on to win the award five times in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005).In 2000 he went to
Juventus and made several 2nd team appearances in late 2000 and 2001 before a deal worth more than 700,000 euros saw him move from the Italian club to Tunisian sideEtoile Sahel . He played 65 games there, scoring 27 goals.
