On December 9, 1930, the Broadcasting Caracas (

It was founded byWilliam Henry Phelps , owner of the popular "Almacén Americano", a business specializing in the importation and sale of electronics. Phelps' partners in this project were Edgar J. Anzola and Ricardo Espina with Alberto López as technical manager. This radio station began operations usingRCA equipment that had a power of 100watt s and its antennas were located on two defunct windmills. On the day of its inauguration, the Broadcasting Caracas made their first remote transmission from the Plaza Henry Clay, were a statue of the famous American politician was being dedicated. On December 17, 1930, from the Carabobo State, the Broadcasting Caracas made its second remote transmission during the inauguration of the allegoric monument commemorating the
Battle of Carabobo .In 1935, following the death of General Juan Vicente Gómez on December 17, the Broadcasting Caracas changed its name to Radio Caracas. By
World War II , Radio Caracas was the main source of news and information inVenezuela .Radio Caracas created many musical and intellectual celebrities, and its programming contained news, popular and cultural music, and radio
soap operas . One of the first stars featured on the Broadcasting Caracas includedGraciela Naranjo , where she made her professional debut at age 15.Alfredo Sadel , a famous Venezuelan entertainer also debuted on Radio Caracas, in which he recorded his first song, "Desesperanza" in 1946. Unfortunately, Desesperanza never went on the air, but Sadel would go on to host popular radio shows such as "Caravana Camel", an evening radio program where he made his claim to fame.Renny Ottolina also began his career on Radio Caracas in 1945.After the inauguration of Radio Caracas Televisiόn (RCTV) on November 15, 1953, Radio Caracas became known as Radio Caracas Radio (RCR), in order to avoid confusion with RCTV.
Today, RCR can be heard on 750 AM. Its programming mostly consists of news and sports. Javier Perera is currently RCR's manager of information and one of the presenters of the news program "Informe RCR". "Expediente", conducted by Francisco Olivares, won the 2005 Monseñor Pellín Award for best national radio program. After RCTV was taken off the air at 11:59pm on May 27, 2007, due to the government's decision not to renew its broadcast license, RCR began transmitting
