Wall Township Speedway, originally named Wall Stadium, was a
race track in Wall Township,New Jersey . It opened in 1950 and operated through the 2007 racing season. It has 30 degree banking in the turns and 16 degree banking in the straightaways. It brought up racing starsRay Evernham andMartin Truex Jr . Fact|date=September 2007 It hosted oneNASCAR Strictly Stock Series (nowSprint Cup ) event in 1958. Well known drivers that race or have raced at Wall includeGil Hearne ,John Blewett III ,Jimmy Blewett ,Jimmy Spencer , andRichie Evans .Since 1974, the track's signature race was the annual "Turkey Derby" held on Thanksgiving weekend. The race format changed over the years, from three 50-lap features, with the best average finish in the three races winning, to the eventual format of two races; the first was a 100-lap feature for the SK Modified cars, an entry-level form of the car initiated by Jack Arute, Sr., at Stafford Motor Speedway.Fact|date=September 2007 The second was another 100-lap feature for Tour-type Modifieds, for cars similar to those used in the two
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour s. The end-of-season races for most classes running at Wall also took place at Thanksgiving weekend, and sometimes Nextel Cup superstars raced in the event.It was announced on March 14, 2008 that the track would be closed, as two of the four owners will buy out the other two. The two that are buying out the others are not interested in opening the track, so Wall is now another track lost in New Jersey. Flemington Speedway closed in 2000, East Windsor Speedway in 2002, and Wall Township Speedway in 2008.
However, it was officially announced that Wall Township Speedway would run its Turkey Derby race again in 2008.
