World's longest cricket marathon

World's longest cricket marathon

The World's Longest Cricket Marathon is a world record currently officially held by Cornwall Cricket Club,Auckland, New Zealand. The attempt made on 18th-20th April 2008, has been confirmed and a new Record of 55 hours has been set. The new record beats that of Chestfield Cricket Club [http://www.chestfieldcc.co.uk/] , which was set on 8th and 9th of September 2007, by 20 hours. It also passes a previous attempt by Citipointe Church in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia which was 50 hours and 15 minutes

Prior the Chestfield Cricket Club record, The Longest Cricket Marathon record was previously held by Red Row Cricket Club in Northumberland, England, standing at 34 hours, set on 26 and 27 May 2007 that beat a record set by Cheriton Fitzpaine Cricket Club in Devon, England (ratified by Guinness World Records on 19 September 2006) standing at 27 hours 34 minutes, set on 24 and 25 June 2006.

An unverified "official" record was set by Citipoite Church in Brisbane, Australia (33 hours and 30 minutes) on the 10 and 11 June 2006, although this is unlikely as the Cheriton Fitzpaine attempt was confirmed which was of a shorter time length and two weeks after Citipoite's claimed record.

The record was originally set by Cricket Club des Ormes in France in 2003, at 26 hours and 13 minutes.

Current Attempts

An attempt at this record has once again been made by two teams from Citipointe Church in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Commencing at 20:30 (local time) at Sel Outridge Park, Redland Bay, on Thursday 20 March, 2008, the teams played until 22:45 on Saturday evening of 22 March. This new unofficial record of 50 hours and 15 minutes beats the Chestfield CC record by 15 hours and 15 minutes.

It was a hugely successful event with money being raised along the way to benefit the Starship Foundation Children's Hospital. Blunham Cricket Club (Bedfordshire, England) staged a 60 hour marathon event over the weekend of Septemeber 20th. The game was held under offical rules and is currently being validated by Guiness. Large amounts of publicity from local news helped prove the event a success over the 4 day event.
