August 12 ,1954 ) held the world record for backwards walking as reported in theGuinness Book of Records 1974 and 1977/1978 editions.On theMarch 20 ,1974 , at age 19, he walked backwards for 52.5 miles or 84.5 km fromLeeds toIngleton , both inYorkshire ,England , in 14 hours.The 1977/1978 edition mentions that "the longest distance reported for walking backwards in 24 hours is 80 miles 128.74 km by Lindsay R.
