He graduated fromHarvard University in1975 .Central Azucarera (Familia Zobel) is a subsidiary of the Ayala corporate group and is one of the nation's leading sugar investment and management companies. The integrated milling and refinery complex accounts for a major share of sugar products marketed in the Philippines and internationally.
Starting with two crushers and nine rolls, the company expanded in 1925 to three mills. After WWII, it added another three mills in line with its philosophy of growth. Expansion and modernization continued in the 1970s with the installation of sophisticated milling and refinery equipment, enabling the company to become one of the biggest raw sugar mills in the Far East.
Married to Consuelo Gracia Austria (nee Beltran) of Laguna. They have one son, Carlos. A first class honours degree holder and fluent in four languages, he was widely expected to take over the reigns of the company. He is permanently estranged from his family due to irreconcilable issues.
Ranked 12th among wealthiest Filipinos, the family manages an array of agricultural and industrial holdings.
