Paris Métro , named after the nearby gate in the Thiers fortifications (1841-45). Street-markets are held on the glacis (the sloping bank in front of a wall) of the fortifications. The station has four lines and is quite impressive, being an artificial rough-hewn cavern without a covering of ceramic tiles.
