Hilliard Guy Griffin

Hilliard Guy Griffin

Hilliard Guy. Griffin was an American minister, and educator (1919-1982).

Raised by a single mother, he was born in Dallas, Texas in July 20, 1919. He began his ministry at the age of seventeen.

He received his ministerial training at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and studied with the Unity School in Summit, Missouri. He made significant accomplishments to the works of Dr. Frank Laubach in the World Literacy Council, using the concept of "Each One, Teach One" literacy program, and served as the Director of World and American Indian affairs for the Oral Roberts Evangelistic association from 1957 to 1962.

In 1956, he took his family, including daughter Gloria Darlene and Jerry Ray Griffin to Jamaica, BWI – where they served as missionaries – establishing a church in Montego Bay, Jamaica. In the 1960s he led a mission team from Oral Roberts Association on an "Around the World in Eighty Days" mission trip. They toured seventy countries through Africa, Asia and Europe.

In 1970, he founded Griffin Christian Academy in Dallas, Texas – where he established new education techniques inspiring educators throughout the world.

He was posthumously honored by the City of Dallas, for his generous contributions to Dallas, his commitment and dedication to his country, and for his untiring, unselfish efforts to serve all humanity, the world over. On April 8, 1982, the mayor of Dallas, Texas proclaimed that day as Hilliard Griffin Day. This was based on his service to humanity in Dallas, Texas and throughout the world.
