nihongo|Tōsandō|東山道 was an old
Japan ese geographical region that made up thegokishichidō system and was situated along the central mountains ofHonshū . [Titsingh, Isaac. (1834). "Annales des empereurs du japon," p. 57.] Its name literally means "Eastern Mountain Way." It also refers to a series of roads that connected the nihongo|capitals|国府|kokufu of each of the provinces that made up the region.The Tōsandō region encompassed eight ancient provinces.
