- Mary French (attorney)
-
Mary French is a senior federal public defender in the Eastern District of California. She has been referred to as a "high-powered attorney" by the media.[1]
Her clients and cases include Kenneth Fetterman, one of the first prosecutions for online auction fraud, which ironically set the record for the most expensive painting to be "sold" online to date.
In 2003 she negotiated the surrender of "Homeless Hacker" Adrian Lamo to federal authorities, ending Lamo's week-long evasion of federal authorities.
She picked up Lamo's case again in 2006, once more in the Eastern District of California, where she litigated for an exemption CODIS requirements in Lamo's case. In 2007, the U.S. Department of Justice settled the case, sparing Lamo from conditions of the 2004 Justice for All Act.[2]
