Caste System in GoaAccording to the , Part I which looks at Goa (published in 1979) the "chief castes" found in Goa are :

*Brahmin comunities
*#"Karhade" Brahmins and two sub-castes among the Karhada Brahmins known as the Padye Brahmins and Bhatt Prabhu Brahmins popularly known as "Bhat" and "parabhu" respectively,and other Karhade Brahmins.
*#Chitpavan Brahmins known as "Konkanastha".
*# Gaud Saraswat Brahmins popularly known as "Baman" or GSBs.
*#"Daivajna" Brahmins popularly known as "Shet".

*Kshatriya communitiesKshatriya Maratha,Maratha

*Vaishya
*The other castes found are the Kharvi,Bhandari,Gomantak Marathas,Madval,Satarkar,Velip,Kunbi,Dhangar,Gauda,Vishwakarma,Kansar,etc
