Tovmas Nazarbekian

Tovmas Nazarbekian (Nazarbekov), (1855–1931), was an Armenian general in the Russian Army who was the governor of the Administration for Western Armenia. He was born and died in Tbilisi.

Military achievements

*Armenian victory over Khalil Pasha at Diliman.
*Took the city of Bitlis during Battle of Bitlis.
*He was driven back to Dilidjan in May 1918. However, he pushed the advancing Ottoman 3rd Army back for a few days, giving the Armenian forces time to prepare for the Battle of Sardarapat. Biography

Born to a wealthy Russianized family, he attended military academy in Moscow. After fighting in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, he resigned his commission, but was appointed as a general in 1914 to fight in the Caucasus.
