- Maria Amardo
Maria Amardo was a fictional character in the short lived 1980's sitcom "
E/R ". She was played by actress Shuko Akune."Stay back of the white line!!"
Maria was the receptionist in the emergency room of Clark Street Hospital, a fictional North Side
Chicago hospital. She was best known for barking "Stay back of the White line!", to keep people, who didn't belong in the treatment rooms, away from that area. While a hard stickler for that rule, she was not without her compassion. Her main job was to man the reception desk, but she was also helpful in getting information out to concerned family and friends. In short, she was indispensable, and she was also one of the few people who didn't usually run afoul of
Eve Sheridan , the ER's head doctor. Her boyfriend was Chicago police officer
Fred Burdock . She was close friends with everyone on the staff, and she also shared an apartment with nurseJulie Williams , in an effort to cut expenses for both of them.Maria is Filipino-American in ancestry, although her father was caucasian. She spoke very fluent Filipino and used that as a tool when it was needed. The main reason she and Fred never married is because she saw what divorce could do, having been the victim of divorce herself.
At first, Maria wore a green gown, as was "de rigueur" for hospitals, but later on, she wore her usual street clothes.
