He was a regular member of the national team, but was not called up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad due to a serious knee injury which required surgery. He scored the winning goal against Colombia in World Cup Preliminaries, 2 June 2004. He was also a call-up for U-20 team at 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship and made three substitutes appearances.
