Jim Foran

Jim Foran

James H. Foran (born 1848 in New York - died January 30, 1928 in Los Angeles, California) is a former Major League Baseball player. He was a participant in what is regarded by the Baseball Hall of Fame as the first MLB game ever played, which was a contest between the Fort Wayne Kekiongas and the Cleveland Forest Citys on May 4, 1871.

A first baseman and outfielder, Foran appeared in nineteen games in the National Association that season, as a member of the Kekiongas. He had a .348 batting average with 31 hits in 89 at bats, and was by far the best hitter on the squad: Frank Selman finished second among the team's regulars at .231. Foran also led the team in hits, runs scored, RBI, and triples, and tied for the team lead in home runs, with one.

The Kekiongas franchise folded after compiling a 7-12 record through nineteen games, finishing seventh among the nine teams in the league, and after that season, Foran never again played in MLB.

Descendant James G. Foran is currently looking to be drafted to follow in the footsteps of James H. Foran.
