- Hans Kohn
Hans Kohn ( _he. הַנְס כֹּהן,
September 15 ,1891 - 1971) was a philosopher andhistorian . Born inHabsburg Prague , he was captured as a prisoner of war duringWorld War I and held inRussia for five years. In the following years he lived inParis andLondon working for Zionist organizations and writing.He moved to
Palestine in 1925 but visited theUnited States frequently, eventually immigrating in 1934 to teach modern history atSmith College inNorthampton, Massachusetts . From 1948 to 1961 he taught atCity College of New York . He also taught at theNew School for Social Research , Harvard Summer School.He wrote numerous books and publications, primarily on the topics of
nationalism ,pan-Slavism , German thought, and the Jewish religion, and was an early contributor to theForeign Policy Research Institute inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania . He died in Philadelphia in 1971.Literary works
