2006 Congressional campaign
Hayhurst won the Democratic primary election over Rev. Kevin Boyd on 2 May 2006. Hayhurst was defeated by Rep.
Mark Souder in the November 2006 general election, 54%-46%. Hayhurst won the City of Fort Wayne but lost to Souder in every county of the district.Hayhurst filed a report with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) terminating his campaign committee on 29 December 2006. Hayhurst chose not to file as a candidate for Congress in 2008.
