The station was formerly known as "Irwell Vale Halt", and as a railway halt was only used when a passenger requested to alight or join the train at the station. The station ceased operating as part of British Railways in 1972 when the
Bury -Rawtenstall route was closed. The station reopened under the ELR in 1991.tation Information
The station has its own parking facilities and next to the station is a
level crossing providing access to houses on the nearby Hardsough Road. The crossing features the original warning sign, listing a telephone number with an area code prior to the Phone Day introduction of the "01" prefix.ervices
