Daniel L. Akin (born January 2, 1957) is the current president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as of January 2004. Dr. Akin has authored numerous books and journal articles. He is devoted to expository preaching.

Education
He is a 1980 graduate of Criswell College with a B.A. in Biblical Studies, a 1983 graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, and a 1989 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington with a Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities.
Family
Akin is married to Charlotte (5/27/78) and they have four sons: Nathan, Jonathan, Paul, and Timothy. They have 3 daughters-in-laws and 6 grandchildren. All four sons are involved in Christian ministry with several having served overseas. Has a brother Sam and a sister Joy. Sam has a son and two daughters. Joy has a son and two daughters.
Abstinence
On June 30, 2006, Akin authored a piece in the Baptist Press where he outlined his reasons why Christians should not drink alcohol.[1] (Compare Christianity and alcohol.)
Ecumenical relations
In November 2009, Akin signed an ecumenical statement known as the Manhattan Declaration calling on Evangelicals, Catholics and Orthodox not to comply with rules and laws permitting abortion, same-sex marriage and other matters that go against their religious consciences.[1]
