The Galician People's Union ( _gl. Unión do Povo Galego) is a Galician
nationalist andcommunist political party, and is one of the registered political parties of Spain.It was founded in 1964 with the intention of the independence of Galicia and its transformation into a socialist state. It caused the creation of nationalist fronts such as the
Asemblea Nacional-Popular Galega and theBloque Nacionalista Galego . Since 1982 it is one of the parties in the coalition. The spokesperson for the BNG in theSpanish Congress of Deputies ,Francisco Rodríguez , is a member of this party.The party publishes the magazine "Terra e Tempo", and the party president is
Bautista Goyel Álvarez Domínguez .It celebrated its ninth national congress in January 2005 in
