- Nevaris
Nevaris is a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer living in the New York City area. Originally from New York, Nevaris’s considerable musical talents were cultivated from a young age, influenced by his father, an opera singer, and his mother, a pianist and composer. Raised in this environment – a diverse musical development throughout his entire life – Nevaris’s music matured into an individually eclectic style, combining rock, funk, and hip-hop with introspective and evocative lyrics and beats.
With ambitions of a professional music career, Nevaris left Bard College early for San Francisco, California, bringing with him self-taught piano, percussion and musical skills and a desire to learn the complex technological side of music production. Using all of his expendable money to fund studio time – rapidly developing a reputation as a talented producer –
Nevaris’s time in San Francisco was an education in itself. Though hungry to write and produce music, he found himself “at the mercy of the people with the recording equipment who were doing things in a cheesy, cookie-cutter fashion. I dreamt of someday having my own studio – and the production skills to fully live out my vision.” This vision brought Nevaris back to New York, armed with a mastery of the production side of music. Like many artists, equipment was gathered piece by piece, eventually founding a recording studio and forming Uncomun Records (initially Nolej Records) with his brother and entrepreneur Alejandro Crawford, graphic designer Marin Horikawa, and filmmaker Nate Taylor. Nevaris’ self-titled LP, mixed by the legendary Bill Laswell (Matisyahu, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock), will be the first album released on the Uncomun label.
Since the creation of Uncomun Records, Nevaris has performed at venues throughout the New York area, such as Joe’s Pub, The Bitter End, Galapagos and Southpaw, and has worked as a producer for many other artists. Developing Uncomun Records as an outlet for independent artists of all genres, Nevaris has cultivated a diverse, though tight, community of musicians, filmmakers, and performing artists through performances and exhibitions of their work.
