On February 18, 2005, at the start of her freshman career in the
NCAA Division I , Selden struck out 16 through seven-innings for her career high in a regulation game; the Bruins won 2-0 over theGeorgia Bulldogs .Selden would then register a career best 23 strikeouts against
Ole Mississippi on March 4, 2005, though the Bruins eventually lost 3-2 in that game.At the 2005
Women's College World Series , Selden led her team to the championship game where they lost two in the newly established three-games title format to first-time winnerMichigan . In game two, Selden struck out 13 to set the championship game record in the three-games setup;UCLA great Debbie Doom holds the ultimate record of 15 strikeouts in the 1984 championship.
