- Stanley Sporkin
Stanley Sporkin (born 1932) is a former judge of the
United States District Court for the District of Columbia . He was nominated to the seat vacated by JudgeJune L. Green onApril 5 ,1985 by PresidentRonald Reagan , and was confirmed by the Senate on December 16; he received his commission the next day. He assumedsenior status onFebruary 12 ,1999 , and retired onJanuary 15 ,2000 .Born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , Sporkin received an A.B. fromPennsylvania State University in 1953, and an LL.B. fromYale Law School in 1957. He was a clerk for U.S. District Court JudgeCaleb M. Wright from 1957 to 1960 and for JudgePaul Leahy in 1960. He was in private practice inWashington, D.C. in 1960-1961, and worked for theSecurities and Exchange Commission from 1961 to 1981; he was director of the Division of Enforcement from 1974 to 1981. From 1981 to 1986, he wasgeneral counsel to theCentral Intelligence Agency .Currently, Sporkin is a member of the
Gavel Consulting Group , a private consultancy that consists of several former federal judges and high-ranking government officials.References
