Rasul

In Islam, a rasul (Arabic: رسول, "messenger," plural "rusul") is a Prophet sent by God with a Shariah ("Divine Law") (for more info see Distinction between Prophets and Messengers). According to the Qur'an, God has sent many prophets ("anbiyaa", sing. "nabi") to mankind. Twenty-five are mentioned by name in the Qur'an (see Prophets of Islam), but according to the hadiths of the prophet Muhammad, there have been over 124,000 prophets in total sent to all portions of the Earth to preach and spread the message of Islam. Of these, the Qur'an names twelve as being "rusul", the five mightiest ones being: Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus), and Muhammad. [cite web

The Greek: aγγελος, angel meaning "messenger" has the meaning of a supernatural being. Islam does not consider "messengers" to be supernatural beings. The Arabic word for angelic supernatural beings is Malā’ikah (ملائكة).
