Alan Jones (priest)

Alan W. Jones has been the Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco since 1985. [ [http://www.gracecathedral.org/ Grace Cathedral, San Francisco - Episcopal Church for the Episcopalian Online Community ] ] Previously, he served as the Stephen F. Bayne Professor of Ascetical Theology at the General Theological Seminary in New York City from 1972 - 1982. During his tenure, he founded and was the first director of the Center for Christian Spirituality at General. Now a U.S. citizen, he was born in England and received his Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham. He is a prominent lecturer in Episcopal and academic circles both nationally and internationally. He is a prolific writer as well of books, articles, and editorial opinions. Jones is also the moderator of The Forum at Grace Cathedral [ [http://www.gracecathedral.org/forum/ Grace Cathedral: The Forum ] ] .

Jones was married to Josephine Franklin Jones for many years, the daughter of Newbery Award-winning author Madeleine L'Engle, and they had two daughters and a son. They were divorced in 1997.
