Robert Laniewski

Robert Laniewski or Robert Łaniewski (born 19 January 1979) is a South African classical pianist.

He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa where his father was an electrical engineer. He began piano lessons at the age of seven with his mother, a musician.

He matriculated in 1996. He resumed his music studies in parallel with his career in software development. In 2000, he was invited to Bad Camberg, Germany, to study with Andrei Gavrilov, from whom he acquired a unique understanding of the music of J.S. Bach. Subsequently, he studied with Lorraine Joubert (a graduate of the Leipzig Conservatoire), Maria Bajalica, Elena Kuschnerova, Lovro Pogorelich and Nicolai Lomov. He studied in Germany, South Africa, Croatia and the United States.

Radio broadcasts of his recordings took place in South Africa. He gave his South African debut recital on 5 May, 2003 at the Gencor Gallery, in Johannesburg, with a live recording.

He gave his United States debut recital at the Lithuanian Children's Relief event in Brockton, Massachusetts on 6 May, 2006.

He has recorded works by Thomas Arne, J.S. Bach, Chopin, Clementi, Fibich, Rachmaninov, Scarlatti and Scriabin.

In January 2004, he compiled an album with various South African musicians celebrating 10 years of democracy.
