Most Jetix channels are basic cable or satellite pay channels. Jetix is also available as a timeshift hour-delay channel named Jetix+1. The UK and Ireland channel is carried on in the UK on Sky Digital ,
Virgin Media ,Tiscali TV and in the Republic of Ireland on Sky Digital,Magnet Networks andUPC Ireland .History
Fox Kids initially launched on October 19 1996. Broadcast hours were between the hours of 6am and 7pm and timeshared with National Geographic Channel. Eventually, broadcasting hours were extended to 10pm, and, on the 3rd November 2003, the channel began to broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In April 2004, the Jetix brand was gently introduced to the UK and Ireland in the form of a programming block on
Fox Kids . The Jetix programming line-up aired every day between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. In September 2004, the block was also included in the morning line-up, airing between the hours of 7am and 9am.Fact|date=August 2008The Jetix block featured the following programs;
Shaman King ,Sonic X ,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ,Jackie Chan Adventures ,Totally Spies ,Black Hole High ,Goosebumps , ,Martin Mystery , Robot Wars, andPower Rangers Ninja Storm plus 2-minute shorts ofShin Chan episodes.Fox Kids formally rebranded as Jetix on
January 1 2005 . The Jetix programming blocks were dropped, and the shows that it contained were integrated into the normal programming schedule. Shortly after the rebranding, a new early-evening block was introduced named "Jetix Max". The Jetix Max slot included such shows as; W.I.T.C.H.,Totally Spies ,Martin Mystery ,Funky Cops ,Power Rangers ,PXG andBlack Hole High . The Jetix Max slot was dropped in June 2006.Censoring
Jetix UK and Ireland has edited some shows for content that is considered too violent for Jetix's target audience. These edits are usually of a time-cut nature, omitting the offending scene.Fact|date=August 2008
Examples of edits include;
Digimon (Season 1): A shot of Leomon grabbing Tai by the neck (whilst he was still in his underwear) was cut
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The silhouette shot of Splinter's owner being cut down by The Shreeder was also cut
Shaman King: Any shot of Anna slapping anyone (happens twice, once to June Tao and once to Zeek/Hao Asakura) has been omitted.
Power Rangers: Strobe lighting, scenes which kids may imitate and even entire episodes are cut. [cite web | title = Nuttynet - SuperHeroes Online | publisher = Power Rangers Edits | url = http://www.nuttynet.co.uk ]
Megaman NT Warrior (Rockman.exe): A shot of Mayrl stamping on Lan's toe before elbowing him in the stomach in response to his flirting in episode 2 was cut and edited to make the toe stamping to be the only thing she does.
Many of these edits have been of quick, unnoticeable shots and thus would not have been picked up on had they not aired on other channels without the edits. The most noticeable example of Jetix UK's editing practices has been the censoring of the anime Naruto, for which Jetix edited episodes beyond Viz's already relatively lenient cut.
Jetix VOD
Since the launch of "
Pucca " on Jetix (mid way though July 2006), Jetix has offered an online "Video On Demand" service [http://www.jetix.co.uk/vod/layout.html?defaultTab=0] , allowing viewers to watch "Exclusive to web" "Pucca" Shorts (Titled "Pucca: Funny ♥ Love"). Adverts for the TV episodes of "Pucca" run before and after each short. Since the UK TV airing of , all "Pucca: Funny ♥ Love" episodes have been replaced with clips of Power Rangers: Mystic Force (Interestingly enough, on AOL Browsers, debug information is also shown).Similarly to Toonami (US)'s Toonami Jetstream Service, Jetix VOD is exclusive to the United Kingdom and Internet Explorer (5.0 and later) users. Attempting to launch the service ether from outside the UK (Or rather, not using a UK
IP address ) or using a non Internet Explorerweb browser will lead to an error message being displayed and the service not running.Magazine
Future Publishing publishes the official Jetix Magazine. Released every four weeks, the magazine features puzzles and features based on the channel's characters as well as a six page Power Rangers comic. New issues contain a Sonic X comic based on the current Sonic X comic series by Archie. The magazine frequently includes a free DVD featuring shows from the channel.
