Backstreet hates warfare. He is not motivated like Beachcomber by philosophical reasons; quite frankly, he isn't mentally equipped for deep thought, but he at least suspects that a failure to fight would mean Decepticon victory, and that he does not want. No, his temperament is the trouble. He's jumpy and nervous, easily agitated, and prone to jumping to incorrect conclusions from accurate observations. He knows he is like this, and tries to avoid battles when possible. Does this make him a coward? Perhaps, but when he can not honorably avoid fighting he does his best to crush his fears, lest he be found out. His comrades, unaware of his secret, know him as an adequate soldier.

As a lookout, Backstreet almost excels. His senses are keen, and his nervousness keeps him constantly alert, if edgy. Best of all, he can avoid the worst of the battlefield chaos. Unfortunately, jumping to conclusions is an even worse trait in a sentry than a front-line soldier.

Marvel Comics

Dogfight debuted with the rest of the Triggerbots in issue #46 "Cash and Car-nage". The Sparkabots and Triggerbots had been held in a Decepticon prison camp by the Firecons. Lord Zarak wanted to test a new weapon that would freeze transformers in vehicle mode. He hires a group of thugs named The Roadjammers to test the weapon on some Autobots. Sizzle, Fizzle and Backstreet sent across the space bridge to Earth to act as guinea pigs.

Backstreet later appears in a flashback in issue #48 "The Flames of Boltax". Decepticon Commander Ratbat had captured two Autobots, Grandslam and Raindance, who had information regarding the Underbase. The video showed a young Optimus Prime accompanied by Backstreet, Dogfight and Override visiting a wise Cybetronian named Boltax. The Decepticons learn from the video that the Underbase was a powerful device which contained information about Cybertron.

Backstreet's most prominent appearance in the U.S. comic was in issue #63 "Kings of the Wild Frontier". This was the second issue of The Matrix Quest mini-series in which both the Autobots and Decepticons are searching for the Creation Matrix. Backstreet and the Triggerbots were sent to search the desert world of Cheyne. There they find several aliens (Vrobians) being attacked by some humanoid villagers. The Autobots weary from the desert climate are invited to rest at the aliens' home. Later the Autobots discover that the hospitable aliens were really psychic vampires who were looking to feed on them. Needless to say they did not find the Matrix there.

Dreamwave Productions

Backstreet was among the Autobot resistance during the "Age of Interment", shown in the third "War Within" series.

IDW Publishing

Backstreet operates out of the Autobot Orbital Command Hub. Optimus Prime called up Backstreet and several others to crew the Ark-27 and shuttle him around the galaxy for a while.

Backstreet was among the Autobots who took Omega Supreme for repairs after he was injured by Monstructor in Spotlight: Optimus Prime.
