"The Barbra Streisand Album" is the title of Streisand's debut solo studio album. Released on February 25, 1963 in the United States, it contained her interpretations of eleven pop standards. The album was very well received, critically and commercially, and won three Grammy Awards, most notably for Album of the Year.

Chart performance

The album was very successful for Streisand reaching #8 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart even though none of the tracks reached the charts as a single. The album has been certified Gold by the RIAA.

Grammy Awards

At the 1964 Grammy Awards, "The Barbra Streisand Album" won the awards for Album of the Year, Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Album Cover - Other Than Classical (presented to art director John Berg).

"Cry Me a River" was previously (and most famously) recorded by Julie London for her 1955 album "Julie Is Her Name". "I'll Tell the Man in the Street" was originally performed by Dennis King in the 1938 production of "I Married an Angel". "A Taste of Honey" was based upon the play of the same name and was recorded by The Beatles for their 1963 album "Please Please Me".
