Appointed Eleanor H. Biggs Memorial Distinguished Professor of
Violin at theCleveland Institute of Music in 2002, he received Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees fromThe Juilliard School . His principal teachers include Margaret Graves,Dorothy DeLay andRobert Mann . He served as chair of the string department at theUniversity of Michigan for 13 years and has served on the faculties ofThe Juilliard School ,New England Conservatory andYale University . He was recently appointed as artist-in-residence ofThe Glenn Gould School .For the past 25 years, he has been an artist/faculty member of the
Aspen Music Festival and School , where he was concertmaster of both the Festival Orchestra and Chamber Symphony. Mr. Kantor has performed with theNew York String Quartet , theBerkshire Chamber Players, theLenox Quartet and the National Musical Arts Chamber Ensemble. He served as concertmaster of theNew Haven Symphony,Aspen Chamber Symphony,Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, and Great Lakes Festival Orchestra and as guestconcertmaster of the New Japan Philharmonic and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.He has performed the world premieres of Dan Welcher's Violin Concerto and
John Corigliano 'sRed Violin Caprices. His recordings are on the Equilibrium, CRI, Delos and Mark Records.
