Noctifer

Noctifer

Noctifer is an Italian black metal band from Rome.

History

Noctifer was started as "Der Nacht" in early 1994 by drummer Regulus. With the first lineup they recorded a demo tape, "Hymns of Sorrow and Darkness". Their first promo CD was released in 1999, followed by the first MCD, "Odiosa Vis Astrorum", in 2002. In the following years they replaced many band members and had gigs with Behemoth, Impaled Nazarene and Carpathian Forest. Their first full length CD, "Manifesta Superbia", was released in 2005.

Origin of the name

The name Noctifer comes from an ancient belief: The earliest astronomers knew of two of stars, one which appeared in the morning and one which appeared in the evening. They did not know that these stars were in fact the same object, the planet Venus. The Romans also had two names for this, and the evening star was called Vesper, or Noctifer (bringer of night).

Musical style

Noctifer play fast black metal with lyrical influences from the history of Ancient Rome. Critics have compared their music to the sound of a battlefield.
