Lord Folkestone was admitted to
Middle Temple in 1708. He matriculated atChrist Church, Oxford University,Oxfordshire , England, on 20 October 1711. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet des Bouverie, of St. Catherine Cree Church, London on 21 November 1736. He held the office ofMember of Parliament forSalisbury between 1741 and 1747. He held the office ofRecorder of Salisbury in 1744. He was created 1st Viscount Folkestone on 29 June 1747. In 1755 he was elected the first president ofThe Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (now theRSA ).
