Sir Jacob des Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone

Sir Jacob des Bouverie, 1st Viscount Folkestone was baptised on 14 October 1694 in St. Katherine Cree, London, England and died on 17 February 1761 . He was the son of Sir William des Bouverie, 1st Bt. and Anne Urry.

He married, firstly, Mary Clarke, daughter of Bartholomew Clarke, on 31 January 1723/24 in St. Paul's Cathedral, London, England. They had five children:

*William de Bouverie, 1st Earl of Radnor (b. 26 February 1725, d. 28 January 1776)
*Hon. Harriet Bouverie (b. 17 October 1736, d. 12 November 1777)
*Anne Bouverie (b. b 1739)
*Hon. Edward Bouverie (b. b 1739, d. 3 September 1810)
*Mary Bouverie (b. b 1739, d. 12 November 1804)

He married, secondly, Elizabeth Marsham, daughter of Robert Marsham, 1st Baron Romney, on 21 April 1741 in Swanscombe, Kent, England. They had a child:

*Philip Bouverie Pusey (b. 8 October 1746, d. 14 April 1828)

Lord Folkestone was admitted to Middle Temple in 1708. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxfordshire, England, on 20 October 1711. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet des Bouverie, of St. Catherine Cree Church, London on 21 November 1736. He held the office of Member of Parliament for Salisbury between 1741 and 1747. He held the office of Recorder of Salisbury in 1744. He was created 1st Viscount Folkestone on 29 June 1747. In 1755 he was elected the first president of The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (now the RSA).
