Tau Theta Pi

Tau Theta Pi (ΤΘΠ) (also known as Taus) is a sorority founded at the University of Southern California in 1998.

Mission Statement

It is the ardent desire of the honorable women of Tau Theta Pi to form and maintain a genuine sisterhood that exemplifies moral excellence, strength, versatility, and open-mindedness. As an organization rooted in strength through diversity, it is our goal to unify women of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We hope to accomplish this goal by means of promoting academic achievement, active involvement in the community, and the forging of the tightly knit bond between sisters. It is also our hope to foster personal growth by making lasting impressions in our community, at school, within our organization and within ourselves, ultimately enriching the college experience.

History

University of Southern California - Founding Chapter

The University of Southern California Chapter of Tau Theta Pi was built by women of character and strength. The Founding Class, comprised of Tina Adams, Joan Bautista, Cecilia Cruz, Jennifer Del Vecchio, Margaret Lee, Debbie Manalastas, Shiredee Mecija, Hannah Nacu, and Athenel Ocampo, constructed the cornerstone for the growth of this organization. Established on November 24, 1998, Tau Theta Pi first came to life when these nine remarkable women came together with the ardent desire to perpetuate unity, humanity, and excellence. The vision, as outlined by our Nine Vital Virtues, embodies the very heart of the sisterhood.

University of California, Irvine - Alpha Chapter

The Alpha Chapter of the University of California, Irvine (est. 2001) is the first expansion chapter of Tau Theta Pi. Originating at the University of Southern California (est. 1998), the Founding Chapter was determined to branch out the ideals that represent Tau Theta Pi towards a new chapter. With cultivation, the Alpha Chapter pursued the desire to nurture the unified goal of building an organization exceeding the expectations of those that prevailed and more. The Founding Mothers consisting of Keyk Capati, Christine Carandang, Shirley Chiang, Jane Cuaresma, Marifi Dinoso, Nina Hamamura, Cathy Lee, Wynnette Marquez, Abegail Panopio, Lizette Raymundo, April Rivera, Kristine Serrano, Jina Siy, Kim Tadina, Shari Yee and Janine Yoshida, came together with the sole determination to form a unique sorority on campus that would emphasize diversity, individuality and ingenuity. The sisters of Tau Theta Pi aim to sustain the visions of unity, humanity and excellence, outlined by the Nine Vital Virtues that embody the true heart of Sisterhood.

University of California, Los Angeles - Beta Chapter

Established on May 30, 2004, the Beta Chapter of the University of California, Los Angeles, is the second expansion chapter of Tau Theta Pi. Sparked by the passion of the founding mothers at the University of Southern California in 1998, the vision of Tau Theta Pi was first shared by the Alpha Chapter at the University of California, Irvine in 2001, and later embraced by nine incredible women at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Founding Class, composed of Mai-Chi Hong, Connie Mun, Cindy Ong, Angelica Ornelas, Charlene Saberon, Evangeline Tejada, Annie Tran, Anne Villacete, and Diana Vo shared the same undying aspiration to perpetuate unity, humanity and excellence-a unique foundation shared by all three chapters. This vision, as outlined by the Nine Vital Virtues, captures the genuine heart of our sisterhood-a bond surpassed by no other.

California State University, Fullerton - Gamma Chapter

In the spring of 2006, 11 young women came together recognizing the need for a new women's society at the California State University, Fullerton. They aimed to establish an organization that would promote academic achievement, social improvement among its members, and a sisterhood where their individuality would remain uncompromised. On December 3, 2006, those 11 women came one step closer to their goal as they crossed into the sorority of Tau Theta Pi as the Founding Class of the Gamma Colony. Although their sorority officially recognized them, they had yet to be acknowledged by the university they sought to improve. After several trials and defeats, the Founding Class never lost their passion or their courage of conviction. Finally, on January 15, 2008, the university accepted the sisters of Tau Theta Pi into the Multicultural Greek Council. This date honors the culmination of nearly two years of perseverance, dedicated to sharing the true essence of sisterhood, only to be defined by each sister of Tau Theta Pi.
