Janice Georgina Alice Eleanor Switlo (born 1959) is a
Canadian lawyer andauthor .She works on behalf of Indigenous peoples within Canada and internationally. She provides her clients with strategic advice on political, policy, legal and economic issues and objectives.
Prior to setting up her own practice, she worked as in-house legal counsel for the
Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development of Canada. She was also the first Canadian in-house counsel for anIndian Band .Fact|date=February 2007Her 1997 book "Gustafsen Lake: under siege: exposing the truth behind the Gustafsen Lake stand-off", offers a socio-political and economic analysis of indigenous issues.
Her interests include international
human rights ,humanitarian law, access to justice and the independence of the judicial system.She ran as an independent candidate for the riding of
