- Belu (company)
Belu is a
UK based company selling bottled water.100% of profits from the sale of
mineral water to fund clean water projects in Africa and India. They have also launched the "the UK's first commercially compostable bottle" - made from genetically modified corn, under ideal conditions it breaks down in 12 weeks. For the bottle to be home-composted however it will need to be shredded. They also offset their carbon emissions.Belu's belief is if the economy is to become sustainable and reduce the possibility of catastrophic climate change, business needs to become sustainable. For this to happen 'sustainability' must become a competitive advantage - with companies competing to become the most sustainable and win market share.
A [http://www.belu.co.uk/ website criticising the company] points out that the whilst the cost to halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water by 2015 is $30 Billion a year, $100 billion a year is spent on bottled water. It also notes that "If you're looking for Belu bottled water, you'll find more or less the same stuff coming out of a tap for 1000th of the cost."
Belu Solutions is also the name of an Australian Based web design firm.
