Robert Pattinson School

Robert Pattinson School is a school on "Moor Lane" in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, UK.

chool history

The school was formerly known as the Robert Pattinson Secondary Modern School. It became a comprehensive when Lincoln went comprehensive in September 1970.

chool structure

It has around 1500 students and is a specialist school in three areas: it is a language, science and mathematics college. It became a self-governing school in 1992 and has links with schools around the world including the Czech Republic, the U.S., Germany, South Africa, France, Spain, Italy, Kenya, China, Russia.

The school has four houses, Windsor, Stuart, Tudor and York (named after historic families within the British Royalty), who compete in sporting events throughout the year to attempt to win the Governors Cup. This is presented at Sports Day each year, which is traditionally held in the first week of July.

Opposite the school on "Moor Lane", is the North Kesteven School, with which the school operates the [http://www.nkschool.lincs.sch.uk/students/sixth_form/introduction.htm North Hykeham Joint Sixth Form] .

Approach to illness in pupils

The school's 'enlightened' approach to pupils with medical problems has twice reached the newspapers in 2008.

The first incident related to a pupil suffering from alopecia, who has been told that he will be taught in isolation and excluded from other pupils if he wears the hat he feels comfortable in. [Daily Mail article 8 September 2008]

The second relates to a pupil with ADHD who was excluded from school for 'naughty' behaviour, including pretending to smoke a cigarette he found on the floor. A Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal found against the school in 2007, saying "We find that the responsible body [the school] unlawfully discriminated against [the pupil] ." It went on to say: "The responsible body is to carry out training for all staff in relation to working with pupils with ADHD and ASD, such training to be delivered within six months." The mother of the pupil has returned to the Tribunal in 2008. [Lincolnshire Echo article 17 September 2008]
