Gerald Edward Sikorski (b.
April 26 ,1948 ) is aMinnesota politician andlawyer . He was aU.S. Representative representingMinnesota's 6th congressional district as a DFL member fromJanuary 3 ,1983 –January 3 ,1993 in the 98th, 99th, 100th, 101st, and 102nd congresses. He served asWhip-at-Large and as a member of the Committees on Energy and Commerce and Post Office and Civil Service. He was defeated byRod Grams in 1992 after he was revealed to have had 697 overdrafts on the House Bank, which he attributed to sloppy bookkeeping by his wife and himself.Representative Sikorski graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree,
summa cum laude from theUniversity of Minnesota in 1970 and aJuris Doctor from theUniversity of Minnesota Law School in 1973; he was admitted to the Minnesota bar, 1973 and commenced practice in Stillwater. He served in theMinnesota Senate 1976–1982. Following his departure from Congress, he became a Washington attorney andlobbyist .References
